This Privacy Policy explains what information Morela (“Morela,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), an app published by Trekka, collects when you use the Morela iOS app, how we use it, and the choices you have. We've tried to keep this readable. If anything is unclear, email us at support@morela.app.
The short version
We collect the pantry and account information you give us so the app can generate recipes and keep your pantry up to date. We don't sell your personal data. Photos you scan are processed to identify food and generate recipes, not stored for advertising. You can delete your account and data at any time.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create a Morela account, we collect basic details needed to set it up and sign you in — such as your email address and authentication credentials. If you subscribe, Apple processes your payment; we receive a confirmation of your subscription status but never your full payment card details.
Pantry and food item data
Morela works by keeping track of the food you have. We collect the pantry items you add, whether you add them manually, by scanning a barcode, or by using the camera (AI Vision). This includes item names, quantities, categories, and the dates you added or used them. This data is what powers recipe generation and automatic pantry tracking.
Camera and photos
When you use AI Vision scanning, Morela accesses your camera (with your permission) to capture an image of your groceries or items. That image is used to identify food items and generate recipes. We do not use your photos for advertising, facial recognition, or any purpose unrelated to identifying food and building recipes for you.
Usage and device information
We may collect limited technical information — such as app version, device type, language setting, and basic diagnostic or crash data — to keep the app working reliably and to understand how features are used. We use this in aggregate to improve Morela.
How we use your information
- To generate recipes from the ingredients you have on hand.
- To identify food items from barcode scans and AI Vision camera scans.
- To keep your pantry accurate as you add items and cook meals.
- To track cooking streaks and food-waste-related insights.
- To manage your account, subscription status, and preferences.
- To diagnose problems, prevent abuse, and improve the app's performance and features.
How recipes are generated (AI processing)
To generate recipes, Morela sends relevant information — such as the food items in your pantry and, when you use AI Vision, the image you captured — to Anthropic's Claude API, the AI service that powers recipe generation. Anthropic processes this content to return recipe suggestions to the app.
Per Anthropic's commercial terms, data sent through the Claude API is used only to provide the service and is not retained by Anthropic beyond what is needed to process your request, and is not used to train their models. We only send the information necessary to produce your recipes.
Where your data is stored
Your account and pantry data are stored using Supabase, our hosting and database provider, which keeps data on secure cloud infrastructure. We rely on industry-standard safeguards — including encryption in transit — to protect your information. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data and limit access to it.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We share information only in these limited situations:
- Service providers that operate Morela on our behalf — such as Anthropic (recipe generation) and Supabase (data storage) — and only to the extent needed to provide their service.
- Apple, which handles subscription billing through the App Store.
- Legal requirements, if we are required to disclose information by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others.
Your rights and choices
You are in control of your data:
- Delete your account and data. You can delete your account from within the app, or by emailing us at support@morela.app. When you delete your account, we delete your pantry and account data from our active systems.
- Access and correct. You can view and edit your pantry items at any time inside the app.
- Camera permission. AI Vision scanning is optional. You can decline or revoke camera access in your device settings and still add items manually.
Children's privacy
Morela is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of Morela after an update means you accept the revised policy.
